Welcome Speech
The HKMUNC was founded 3 years ago. Although it is a young student organization, we, sharing the vision and passion of its founders, are determined to shoulder the duty of promoting world peace as we recognize our responsibility to equip ourselves and to contribute as the future pillars of our society. Through organizing the Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference every year, we hope to raise youth’s awareness on global issues as well as instilling them with the UN’s peace-keeping spirit. With the support of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR, our honorable advisors, guests and judges, the club has successfully organized the HKMUN Conference 2008 which attracted over 600 international applicants from all around the world.
The HKMUNC is growing this year. With an increased total of 44 committee members, we would also like to raise the number of delegates in our conference from 200 to 400. We belief that a larger variety of students will enrich the conference, which will ultimately help participants to enjoy and gain from it to the fullest extent. Likewise, the number of committees will be increased from 3 to 4, focusing on health problem, social issues, economic development and human rights concerns respectively. These are some of the problems that might have been brought about by globalization. Through intense and interactive debates and discussions in the conference, we aim to provide participants with the ground to put these problems into perspectives and thereby gain insights into how they can be rectified in a harmonious fashion through consensus and compromises.
We sincerely hope that you will enjoy this international interflow and we will strive our best to bring you a memorable experience. On behalf of all my teammates, I cordially invite you to join us and to help make a better world!
